WRITE ON

The Focus
Write On! focuses on process and technique.  Participants will learn to produce clear, concise, professional communications.

The Eight Essentials
To create effective business communications, there are specific considerations: Reader, Tone, Clear and Concise Messages, Correct and Complete Facts, Logical Sequence, Active and Passive Voice, Sentence Structure, and Grammar.  Each essential is clearly explained and integrated into the writing and editing process.

The POWER Process
(Plan, Organize, Write, Edit, Revise)
Participants will learn that applying our step-by-step approach to writing and editing will not only reduce stress but also allow them to  write more efficiently.  This process encourages concentrating on one step at  a  time rather than juggling all the facets of writing simultaneously.

The Method
To incorporate the Essentials of good writing and editing into the POWER process, participants write, revise, and proofread. Group and individual exercises encourage involvement.  Participants have the opportunity to review  their own documents to learn how to improve them.  By identifying specific errors, participants will learn critical skills to apply to their own correspondence.

Course Topics
Write for a specific reader.  Choose the right words to create the right tone.  Identify and eliminate words or phrases that detract from a clear, concise message.  Include all necessary details.  Develop methods of organization for a logical sequence.  Determine when to use active or passive voice.  Construct, vary, and critique sentences for optimum readability.
